About Me
I am a father, lover, craftsmen and photographer, though none of these alone can describe the person I am nor the beliefs that I hold.
My Work
Although I love to shoot almost anything that catches my eye, when it comes down to it Architecture is my passion. Whether it's a demure home or towering office building, there's something about the structures that litter our landscape that I am drawn to.
How I Got Started
All of my life I've been surrounded by beautiful artwork and the masters that created it. As a child my mother, a painter, would drag me and my little brother to exhibits, galleries and openings and at the time I didn't appreciate it (in fact I hated it). As I grew and my interests broadened from those of an adolescent boy, I found myself enjoying art, but lacking a creative outlet. It was while living in Phoenix, AZ and having a moment of soul searching, that on a whim, I enrolled in a photography class at the local community college. The rest, as they say, is history...
Why Film
Most people assume film has gone the way of the cassette (both audio and video) but the truth is there's a revival right now. Some people find film photography through classes, some want to explore new formats, some feel it's the hip trendy way to take photos, and some just want to go back to the way it used to be, before thousands of photos on an 8 gig card, before constantly tweaking your settings to get the "perfect shot", before hours of sitting at a computer screen staring at almost identical images trying to decide which had the best lighting. Me, I just love it.
I love the sense of security of having a tangible image, not just a bunch of bytes on a failure prone disk drive. I love that I'm limited, it helps control my ADHD brain from running 100mph and second guessing every decision. I love looking a scene over, trying to understand the components that make it up, the way the lighting interacts with them, and the way the final image will be viewed. I love the smell of a dark room, even if that room is my cramped 4'x8' bathroom. I love actually handling my images, running my hands over a negative or print, drawing the sense of feeling it gives me. In the end, like my favorite pair of pants, I love that it just fits me.
